FAQs

  • Flowers

Can I choose which flowers I receive?

You cannot choose your flowers. Petals & Amazons curates a unique seasonal bouquet each month for delivery to our customers. See our gallery or Instagram for examples of our style of floristry.

What kinds of flowers are used?

Flowers from Petals & Amazons are always seasonal. We seek out unique varieties to keep our bunches unique and interesting.

Where do the flowers come from?

During British flower season, we source as much as possible from British growers. Outside of this season, flowers are sourced from either New Covent Garden Flower Market or Dutch wholesalers.

How long will my flowers last?

Cut flowers will vary in their lifespan. Petals & Amazons choose seasonal flowers and condition them before delivering to our customers, to help them stay fresher for longer. However, their lifespan will also depend on the care they receive in our customers’ homes. See our top tips for advice on what you can do at home to help them look great for longer.

Will I receive flower food to use with my delivery?

Petals & Amazons flowers will have received some flower food during the conditioning process in our studio. We do not currently include flower food with our deliveries, as we believe the combination of our conditioning techniques and your care will maintain our flowers for the normal length of time expected of cut flowers. This approach also reduces packaging.

Are any of your flowers toxic to animals or people?

Petals & Amazons flowers are not edible, and some flowers can cause skin irritation. Some cut flowers are toxic to animals and people. We advise that you keep your cut flowers well away from any pets or small children.

  • Other floristry work

Will you do flowers for weddings/funerals/events?

Sorry, but Petals & Amazons is focused on delivering unique and exciting seasonal flowers to our customers on a regular basis. We do not do flowers for events.

  • Sustainability

How do you minimise your impact on the environment?

Sustainability is at the forefront of our minds. Here are the ways that we strive for more sustainable floristry at Petals & Amazons:

Seasonal flowers: We believe that showcasing the best of our surroundings is what floristry is about. Choosing seasonal flowers makes sense for both the environment and the customer. Flowers will almost always be better quality (visually, and in terms of their scent and longevity) in their natural season, and better value for money. They are also less likely to have been forced under cover or grown a long way away, meaning choosing seasonal flowers helps to reduce the carbon footprint of our floristry.

Recyclable or biodegradable packaging: almost all our packaging, including the sticky tape, is recyclable or biodegradable. The only exception to this is the ribbon, which is intentionally unbranded to enable further use at home (wrapping gifts, arts & crafts, gardening etc). We only use biodegradable cellophane and never use floral foam.

Carefully selected flower suppliers: we use as much UK-grown produce as possible. There are times of the year when this isn’t possible for the product that we deliver, however this may change in the future as the UK flower farming industry develops. When choosing a supplier, whether from the UK or internationally, we ask questions about where the flowers have come from, how far they’ve travelled, the use of peat-free compost, agrochemicals and whether a supplier is delivering any environmental or social impact on the ground. The answers to these questions play a part in our decision-making on suppliers.

Composted green waste: all green waste is composted and used in our garden.
